Gluten free Puglia – Gargano senza glutine

Gluten free Puglia – Gargano senza glutine

By on May 3, 2015 in Italy, Puglia, Senza categoria, Travel journal | 0 comments

Back from the south of Italy. 4 days off, just to enjoy relax, friendship, gluten free food, sea and sun. Waiting for big changes in my life, that’s why I stayed away from my blog lately…I’ll be writing soon about that. In the meanwhile, just let me tell you that Puglia region is wonderful, and local people so kind and friendly. We had a special flight on a private plane. It was my first time in such a small one…a bit scaring, but awesome thanks to the landscape directly from the sky. Need to add some sweetness: we had a gluten free ice cream in Manfredonia at Da Tommasino, which is a glocal (local but known abroad) busy ice cream maker artisan. We spent more than half an hour waiting for our turn but…it’s worth it! Gluten free Nutella ice cream. Delicious! Today’s soundtrack: Have a nice day – Stereophonics Di ritorno dal sud Italia. Buonissimo! Colonna sonora di oggi: Have a nice day –...

A perfect gluten free Sunday – Domenica a Santa Severa

A perfect gluten free Sunday – Domenica a Santa Severa

By on Jun 11, 2014 in Rome, Senza categoria, Travel journal | 0 comments

Summertime is finally coming in Italy! Last Sunday I got to the beach near Cerveteri, in the north of Rome: its name is Santa Severa, a nice place with a castle on the sea side. I went there with some friends of mine to spend a nice day on the beach. We actually arrived too late to enjoy the whole day, but we didn’t mind at all, since we just wanted to relax, eat, and relax as well 😉 First of all, we had a late lunch at the Bagno Oasi Restaurant, which was right on the seafront. As it’s not a gluten free restaurant, I had to explain my gluten free needs and I finally had a sole fish with vegetables. Then, we spent the afternoon chillin’ out on the beach. It was quite windy, but who cared… As we needed to respect the main goal of the day (relax, eat etc.), in spite of the fact that we had our lunch late in the afternoon, we also decided to have a dinner. We went to Il Casale di Montetosto, a gluten free restaurant close to the sea, on the top of the hill near Cerveteri. The place was really nice and cosy: they’re definitely aware of gluten free and coeliac needs, and my friends decided to have a gluten free pizza in spite they didn’t need it. We had gluten free pumpkin flowers’ dough as starters, and some interesting gluten free pizza as main course. I was delighted by the courtesy of our host Stefano and…the gluten free sorbetto (lemon water ice)! Which is usually forbidden for coeliac people, due to the industrial factories that make it with gluten. A nice gluten free Sunday. Guess I’ll be back soon 😉 Have a great week! Today’s soundtrack: Lou Reed – Perfect...

How to plan your next trip – Strumenti di viaggio

How to plan your next trip – Strumenti di viaggio

By on May 25, 2014 in Senza categoria, Travel journal, Travel Tools | 0 comments

Summertime is coming…are you planning your next (gluten free or not) trip? Here two useful travel tools created by an experienced traveller, a friend of mine who decided to travel all around the world for almost one-year trip. The first one is really nice: the luggage creator. If you need help defining what to put in your luggage, you just need to fill in the form with your trip’s details. The system will give you a complete list with the whole stuffs you need to put in your bag. The second one is a brand new software: Selfitour. It’s a very interesting way to help you planning your trip, connecting many different resources on the internet. I’ll be trying soon this tool for my next trip!

How to get a ‘crunchy’ ice cream in Ostia – Un gelato croccante vicino Roma

How to get a ‘crunchy’ ice cream in Ostia – Un gelato croccante vicino Roma

By on Apr 14, 2014 in Rome, Senza categoria, Travel journal | 0 comments

One week ago I had a day off my work and I got to the sea. The nearest sea was Ostia, close to Rome. It’s not exactly the place I would recommend in order to plan your holidays, but it was a nice day away from the city. My plan was to get to the seafront, then have a walk on the beach. On the AIC App (the Italian coeliac association) I found a couple of places to taste. Apparently, they don’t have many gluten free residents. Neither tourists, since It was difficult to find a right place to have a lunch. The first place I reached was a restaurant called Zenzero, which is not right on the seafront so you need to walk toward the city centre. Unfortunately, when I reached the place I realised that instead of the restaurant there was another one, not gluten free and even closed when I got to. So I had to change my plans and I had a ice cream at lunchtime. I found the ice-cream shop called Il mare del gelato, with gluten free products and nice staff, very well aware about coeliac disease and contamination issues. I got this good ice cream with gluten free wafer as a bowl. Fantastic! I’ve never tasted a gluten free one before, and I usually avoid gluten free wafer because it never seems crunchy, and it often has a bitter taste. But it was completely different! If you’ll come here, please consider to have creme caramel flavour…really tasty! Before to get back home, I finally wait for the sunset. Which is my personal gift to you. Have a nice and ‘crunchy’ week!
